Features

GPS-Based Mobile Punch-In

Employees open the app and tap "Punch In" — GPS coordinates are captured and verified against allowed locations. Works at the office, client sites, factories, and for field sales executives. No thumb impression, no queuing, no "buddy punching" excuses.

Geo-Fencing for Multiple Locations

Set geo-fenced zones for each office, warehouse, or factory. Employees can only punch in when physically within the defined radius. Multiple locations supported — Delhi HO, Mumbai branch, and Pune factory can all have separate geo-fences under one company account.

Real-Time Attendance Dashboard

HR and managers see who is present, who is late, and who is absent — right now, not at end of day. No waiting for a biometric device report to be exported and emailed. Mark manual corrections with approval workflow for genuine exceptions.

Works for Field & Remote Teams

Biometric machines are useless for field sales reps, delivery executives, and work-from-home employees. GPS mobile attendance tracks where they actually are when they punch in — the same attendance data flows into payroll for accurate LOP calculation.

Automatic LOP Linked to Payroll

Attendance data flows directly to the payroll module. Loss of Pay days are calculated automatically — no manual cross-referencing between the biometric report and the payroll sheet. LOP deduction appears on the salary slip with date-wise detail.

Instant Setup — No Hardware Vendor

No procurement, no installation appointment, no AMC contract with a biometric vendor. Employees download the app, you enable GPS attendance in the admin panel, and the system is live within an hour. Works on any Android or iOS smartphone.

Key benefits

How it works

  1. Configure Locations and Geo-Fences — Add your office addresses in the admin panel. Set the allowed radius for each location (typically 50-200 metres). Employees assigned to that location can only punch in from within the geo-fence. Remote employees can be allowed from any location with a GPS capture.
  2. Employees Download the App — Share the Avani app download link (iOS and Android). Employees register with their work email. Location permissions are enabled once. From the next workday, they punch in and out on the app — the whole team is on GPS attendance in one day.
  3. Attendance Flows into Payroll — Every punch-in and punch-out is recorded with GPS coordinates and timestamp. Monthly attendance summary — present days, late arrivals, absent days, LOP — is automatically passed to payroll. Run payroll directly from attendance data with no manual step.

Frequently asked questions

Why are companies moving away from biometric machines?

Biometric machines have several practical problems for modern Indian companies: (1) They only work for office-based employees — field sales reps, delivery staff, and WFH employees cannot use them. (2) They break down and require vendor calls and AMC contracts. (3) They generate CSV reports that must be manually imported into payroll — causing errors. (4) COVID hygiene concerns made fingerprint machines unpopular in many offices. GPS mobile attendance solves all these issues.

Is GPS mobile attendance legally valid in India?

Yes. The Shops and Establishments Acts in most Indian states accept electronic attendance records. The key requirement is maintaining a dated, tamper-proof attendance register — GPS-timestamped records in a cloud system satisfy this requirement. EPFO and ESIC inspections primarily verify salary and contribution records, not the mode of attendance recording. Avani's attendance records include GPS coordinates, timestamp, device ID, and employee ID — fully auditable.

Can employees fake GPS location on attendance apps?

Avani detects mock location apps — if an employee uses a fake GPS app (e.g., "Mock GPS" or similar), the system flags the punch-in as suspicious. Additionally, geo-fencing adds a physical constraint — the employee must be within the correct radius of the office. For critical locations, selfie verification can be enabled alongside GPS — the employee must take a photo at punch-in time, making proxy attendance nearly impossible.

What happens to biometric data when we switch?

You can import historical biometric attendance data into Avani using CSV export from your biometric device. Most biometric systems (eSSL, ZKTeco, Mantra, Startek) support attendance data export in standard CSV format. Once imported, historical records are maintained alongside GPS attendance data. This preserves continuity for payroll calculations and compliance records.

How does GPS attendance handle multi-site employees?

For field employees and those working at client sites, Avani offers "flexible location" attendance — GPS is still captured and recorded, but the employee is not restricted to a pre-set geo-fence. Their manager can see where they punched in on a map. For companies with frequent client visits, this provides accountability without creating attendance marking failures when employees are at the right place but not the office.
