Frequently asked questions

What is an ESI calculator?

An ESI calculator works out the Employees’ State Insurance contribution on gross monthly wages. The employee pays 0.75% and the employer pays 3.25% — a total of 4% — for any employee earning gross wages up to ₹21,000 per month. Avani Business OS calculates and files this automatically.

What is the ESI wage limit in India?

ESI applies to employees with gross monthly wages of ₹21,000 or less (₹25,000 for employees with disabilities). Once an employee’s gross crosses ₹21,000, ESI stops from the next contribution period. Establishments with 10 or more employees (20 in some states) must register under the ESI Act.

What are the current ESI contribution rates?

As of the latest revision, the employee contributes 0.75% of gross wages and the employer contributes 3.25% of gross wages — a combined 4%. "Gross wages" includes basic, DA, HRA, and most allowances, but excludes the employer’s PF/ESI contribution and gratuity.

Is ESI calculated on basic or gross salary?

ESI is calculated on GROSS wages, not just basic. This differs from PF, which is calculated on basic + DA. Enter your gross monthly salary above to get the correct ESI figure.

Does Avani Business OS handle ESI filing?

Yes. Avani checks each employee’s gross wage against the ₹21,000 ceiling every month, applies ESI only where eligible, auto-stops it when wages cross the limit, and generates the ESIC challan data — so your ESI compliance is fully automated.
