Frequently asked questions

What is a PF (EPF) calculator?

A PF calculator computes the monthly Employees’ Provident Fund contribution from your basic salary. In India the employee contributes 12% of basic + DA, and the employer contributes a matching 12% (split as 3.67% to EPF and 8.33% to the EPS pension scheme). Avani Business OS automates this for your whole team in payroll.

How is PF calculated on salary in India?

PF is 12% of (Basic + Dearness Allowance). Employee 12% goes fully to EPF. The employer’s 12% is split: 8.33% to EPS (capped on a wage of ₹15,000, i.e. max ₹1,250) and the remaining amount to EPF. Many employers cap PF on a basic wage of ₹15,000/month, which this calculator lets you toggle.

Is PF mandatory for all employees?

EPF is mandatory for establishments with 20 or more employees. Employees earning a basic wage up to ₹15,000/month must be enrolled; those above can opt in. Employer registration with EPFO and a monthly ECR filing are required.

What is the ₹15,000 PF wage ceiling?

The statutory PF wage ceiling is ₹15,000/month. Employers may restrict their PF contribution to 12% of ₹15,000 (i.e. ₹1,800) even if actual basic is higher. Toggle "Cap at ₹15,000" in the calculator to see both scenarios.

Does Avani Business OS calculate PF automatically?

Yes. Avani computes EPF for every employee each payroll run, splits the employer share into EPF and EPS correctly, and generates the EPFO ECR file ready for portal upload — no manual spreadsheets.
